Hey Spring!- Property Damage from Wind Storms

Restoring your property after springtime wind storms.

Spring is here- and so is the wind. While Spring is a beautiful season for British Columbia – (check out the forecast for next week!)- it also happens to be the time for high chances of wind storms in the Okanagan.

Spring is that strange period of time where the cold temperatures are still in the air, but the warm ones want to take over. The high level of barometric pressure in the cold air masses, and the low pressure in the warm air masses battle it out and bring the two temperatures together. Cold travels down from the north and warmer wind comes up from the south and then we seem to have a problem. The pressure differences don’t mix well and winds are more likely to be created as the air is “mixed”- that is, until the two air masses settle their feud.

Thanks, Weather Dudes.

So, now that we know why Spring has the tendency to be a little windy, let’s talk about the potential outcome of Springtime wind.

Property damage.

Wind Storm Property Damage Prevention.

Prevention is always the best tool, and there are some easy steps you can take to minimize property damage from windstorms.

  • Keep your trees, shrubs and other garden features trimmed so that they do not touch your house or power lines that are nearby.
  • Be diligent in clearing dead trees and branches in your garden and home.
  • Missing or loose roof shingles decreases your chance of protection in a wind storm, as well as naturally becoming a hazardous object when lifted off your roof during strong wind
  • Try not to park directly under trees, as your car may be damaged by branches or twigs in a storm
  • Try not to leave patio furniture out unattended until the very solid summer months. Bring in your furniture during the Spring when you are done using it

If a windstorm causes your property damage:

If you do find yourself and your home in the middle of a windstorm, it can be quite scary at times. Your property can be damaged from wind in many ways, including:

  • Broken windows
  • Broken siding
  • Damaged roof
  • Vehicle damage
  • Trees falling on parts of property
  • Destroyed fences
  • Leaking windows
  • Blocked water utility systems
  • Damaged power lines and utility poles

Your first step of action should be to contact our emergency response team[  here at Stutters DKI Restoration, who can assess your property and determine if there are any immediate causes for concern. Our extensively trained techs will respond quickly and effectively to ensure your home is secured and there are no imminent sources of danger or water damage. Notifying your insurance company, broker or adjuster must also be done; while this can sometimes seem confusing, Stutters DKI Restoration is well versed in the process and can assist you throughout the entire claims process.

Curious about how the claims process works? Check out our video  that makes a sometimes not so simple process- well, pretty simple.

From there, our team will work to restore your home. Our project managers will communicate with you throughout the whole restoration process, keeping you comprised of the projects scope, timeline and insurance status.

Why restoration services are needed for property damage caused by wind:

When damage to property occurs, of almost any kind, it’s very difficult to the untrained eye to see the extent of that damage. Many instances of property damage go deeper than the surface, which “fixes” will not address. Stutters DKI finds these- we really do restore your home from the core.

We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to better serve you.  Call Stutters at 1-877-763-1540.
